Upon entering Kumukehu you are greeted by a 3 foot solid jade Buddha who resides in the circular entry with stained glass skylights and inlaid lillypad mosaic floor tiles. Throughout Kumukehu there is generous use of marble, granite, etched glass, crystal, original art, motion sensor lighting, and very fine furnishings, including down sofas.

On the Big Island of Hawaii's Kona-Kohala Coast, Hualalai recaptures the spirit of another time. Swaying palms decorate the landscape where dramatic green fairways cut through the lava and drop to the coast to hug the sea. Pathways wind through open dunes, by ancient Hawaiian fishponds, and through flowering gardens that perfume the air.
At Hualalai, there is a mana or spirit, that is a part of the land, bringing a heightened sense of relaxation and rejuvenation to the many activities and amenities of the resort. One feels it in the Signature Jack Nicklaus golf course and the first 9 holes of the Tom Weiskopf golf course, now open in the surging lava hills above the Nicklaus course. In the privileged services of the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai. In the restaurants serenaded by the sea. In the award-winning spa treatments and workout programs of the Sports Club and Spa. In the rich legacy of KaÔupulehu, the ancient name for the sweep of this land on the coast. Many centuries ago, the Hawaiians named this place Ka'upulehu, perhaps based on a legend of the Hawaiian god Kane who brought life-giving freshwater springs to these shores. At the Ka'upulehu Cultural Center, located below the Four Seasons lobby, the legacy of this place and the culture of Hawai'i is celebrated with programs designed to educate families: Lei making, Traditional hula, Canoe paddling, Hawaiian language, Hawaiian arts and crafts, Culture and natural history, Native flora and fauna, Hawaiian music.
As a stay at Hualalai renews the spirit, so does the cuisine revitalize the senses with fresh island flavors. The daily catch comes straight from Big Island waters or from the fish ponds at Hualalai. At the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai: Pahui'a Restaurant: the epitome of fine island dining featuring Pacific Fusion cuisine and an elegant, open dining area overlooking the sea. Beach Tree Bar & Grill: casual beachside dining under wide umbrellas, cooled by the gentle trade winds. At the Beach: Residents' Beach House: this is the place for Hualalai homeowners to enjoy special beachfront events (throughout most of the year, it is also open to Four Seasons guests for lunch and cocktails. At the Golf Clubhouse: Hualalai Club Grille: a bold menu of steaks from Parker Ranch and fresh catch from Kona, served in an expansive setting on the second floor of the Clubhouse.

Despite the Big Island of Hawaii being large enough to swallow all of the other islands of Hawaii State, all types of recreation are a short distance from the Kohala Coast resorts. The best sport fishing in the world departs from Kawaihae and Honokohau Harbors. Pleasure boats launch from Mauna Lani, Mauna Kea and Waikoloa for whale watching, snorkeling, scuba diving, and sunset sails. Enjoy horseback riding, hiking, biking, excursions to the summit of Mauna Kea or Mauna Loa for star gazing, tour coffee plantations, see orchid and macadamia nut farms, trek to the red hot lava flows of Kilauea volcano at twilight, or visit ancient petroglyphs and fishing shrines built by the former kings of Hawaii.
Fabulous sandy swimming beaches dot the sunny dry Kohala Coast at Waikoloa, Mauna Lani, Hapuna, and Mauna Kea, all of which are within an easy 10-20 minute drive.
