The contemporary tropical decor features an extensive use of natural fossil stone, marble, granite, with cabinets and most furniture custom hand-made rare tropical woods and native Hawaiian Koa. The interior color scheme utilizes natural earth tones of beige, light brown and light green to blend with the surrounding environment. Entertain the family with a karaoke machine or a new digital baby grand piano. Central air conditioning with multiple zones and individual temperature controls in each bedroom helps keep you cool.
This west-facing villa is set on the leeward side of the Big Island or Hawai'i Island, atop an ocean front bluff that stretches between the Mauna Kea and Hapuna Prince resorts. Mauna Kea resort was hand selected by Nelson Rockefeller in the 1960's as the premiere resort site in Hawai'i when he was presented by the State of Hawaii with his choice of sites throughout the islands. Traditionally, Mauna Kea has the driest weather of all resort settings in the islands. Use of both postcard perfect public sandy beaches is available to guests as well as resort charging and other resort services as if a guest of the Mauna Kea or Hapuna Prince hotels.
Guests will be enthralled with the spacious floor plan that places seven bedroom suites comfortably spaced apart, each with private bath; some with outdoor private showers; and, two master suites have in-ground hot tub/spas and outdoor showers in an enclosed courtyard. Four of the seven bedrooms are on the pool and ocean side of the villa and have ocean views. Another ocean view bedroom suite is located on the upper level and has two queen beds, a separate parlor with full entertainment system, computer, sofa bed, wet bar/fridge and a spacious mountain view outdoor patio with teak lounging and dining furniture. Some of the bedrooms also have sofa beds.
All of the bedroom suites have luxury furnishings and appointments - decorator furniture, deep plush mattresses with buttery soft Hotel Collection sheets, linens, down duvets, down pillows, and minimum 40 inch LCD flat panel wall mounted TVs with DVD.
The expansive Great Room opens onto the pool patio offering ample room for entertaining family and guests. The formal dining area offers indoor dining for 14-16 persons at one enormous table in the great room next to the kitchen. The outdoor patio has informal dining/seating for the same number of guests.
There is a separate family/entertainment room, which includes a 46" flat screen TV, a VCR/DVD/CD/Stereo entertainment system, a computer work station, various books and games, an extensive DVD/CD library and a state-of-the-art Karaoke machine pre-loaded with hundreds of songs and four microphones.
The billiards room includes a large flat panel Pioneer TV on the wall, a full bar with assorted spirits, filtered water with ice maker & fridge, sink, 4 leather bar stools, hand-made koa wood pineapple motif billiard table.
The huge, center-island gourmet kitchen features wrap-around counter seating which faces the great room, pool and ocean; double Sub-Zero refrigerators; an expansive assortment of kitchen goods, service ware, etc. Thermador professional gas range with 6 burners, dual gas ovens, dual convection ovens, warmer drawer, dual sinks, and a full array of commercial quality small appliances (including an espresso machine) - everything that a gourmand or professional chef would require. Kitchen Aid Pro Line toaster, espresso machine, programmable coffee maker, food processor, blender, mixer, Henckel knives, microwave, juicer, Calphalon pots & pans, dishware & glassware for entertaining for up to 30 persons, walk in pantry with full complement of basic supplies such as oils, vinegars, condiments, juices & sodas, bakeware, vases, more glassware.
Laundry center off kitchen can be accessed from garage. Beach towels, step ladder, iron/board, washer/dryer, medical & sun care products are stocked.
Past the kitchen is a stone floor courtyard open to the sky where guests will find plenty of room for private sunning with no view access. A powder half bath is convenient to the kitchen and billiard room off the courtyard.
Also centered off the courtyard is another dedicated entertainment/media room with leather & chenille sofas, flat panel large format Pioneer television with full stereo/audio system, books and games, some CD & DVD, computer work station/office with 4-in-1 printer, Sony flat panel monitor and computer with guest log in, phone, individual a/c.
A fully sound-proofed, air conditioned state-of-the-art home theater system using Theta and Creston equipment. approx. 25 x 25 features cork flooring, padded walls, wood panel ceiling, hand woven carpet, and a large projection-screen with the most elaborate audio system seen in the islands, with ten plush, reclining seats complete with cup holders.
The home gym/exercise room includes a Life Fitness T9i treadmill, Life Fitness x9 elliptical machine, Hampton free weights, flat panel large size Pioneer TV with DVD, full bath with marble shower outdoor courtyard shower.
There are three computer work stations located throughout the house and each station features top-quality equipment, high-speed wireless internet and many pre-loaded programs with guest log-in access.
Guests at Shooting Stars at Mauna Kea have golf, tennis, spa and dining privileges and receive the seasonally applicable resort-guests rates at both the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel and at the Mauna Kea Resort. Guests can walk or drive 2-3 blocks to the beach at Hapuna or can drive or take a shuttle bus from the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel to the Mauna Kea. It is also possible to take a leisurely hike along a shoreline path to the Mauna Kea Resort - approx. 1 mile.
A piano, karaoke system, use of the garage with space for 2-4 cars depending on size, bicycles and basic golf club sets are provided, along with Satellite Direct TV with individual receiver boxes in all rooms and ipod docking stations.
The great room is a majestic central living space with wood paneled peaked ceiling and central stereo sound. An entertainment area provides plush chenille and leather sofa seating for 8 or 9 persons surrounding a 5 X 7 coffee table, which is a masterpiece of woodworking. Hand carved rare tropical wood art bowls, custom ceramics and a wall mounted fish fossil reaching nearly 15 feet in length are decorations.
The formal dining table is made of solid rare koa wood and seats 14 - 16 persons with ocean views. Poolside informal dining seats 14 - 16 persons.

Daily hotel-style housekeeping service is included with bath linen change (personal laundry service is additional upon request). Bed linens are changed every 4th day. Guests are graned resort rates for golf and tennis facilities, and may rent a golf cart with advance notice at extra charge. Some of the finest golf in the islands is provided at the Mauna Kea and Hapuna Prince courses. A Helicopter landing facility is nearby, allowing guests to land by private jet at Kona airport then helicopter up the coast to arrive within minutes of landing at the airport. The Kona helipad is located at the same tarmac as the private jet terminal.
Concierge Service is provided complimentary through Tropical Villa Vacations. The area offers horseback riding, helicopter flights, sailing boat charters, scuba/snorkel/kayak options, star gazing excursions, hiking, and other activities.
The next door home is currently being remodeled. Construction noise may be audible from 7am to 6pm Monday through Saturday without advance notice. No work on major holidays.
