Shooting Stars is a spectacular private vacation home with 7 bedrooms and more than 14,000 square feet - set within the heart of Mauna Kea Resort on the "Big Island" of Hawai`i. Also adjacent to Mauna Kea Resort is the Hapuna Beach Resort. Safely tucked away within an exclusive gated residential community, Shooting Stars is perched on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean where dazzling sunset and moonset views entertain. During winter season guests may enjoy whale watching (mother nature permitting) from front row seats. This home is the ultimate retreat for families or corporate meetings.

As a guest of Shooting Stars you will also become a guest of the legendary Mauna Kea Resort where you'll enjoy the same ultimate resort experience as it's hotel guests. Upon arrival you'll be issued a temporary guest card that will entitle you to signing/charging privileges with access to not only your own private swimming pool, but also the two hotel pools, beaches (with beach attendants), multiple spa and fitness facilities, golf courses, and all dining options. The two adjacent resorts share two championship golf courses, two natural white sand beaches with clear water and sandy bottoms, two salons, over a dozen restaurants and lounges, multiple heated freshwater pools, multiple whirlpool hot tubs, a Business Center, and a complimentary resort to resort shuttle.

Mauna Kea resort was hand selected by Nelson Rockefeller in the 1960's as the first site established for a premiere world-class luxury resort - the first to be built outside of Honolulu on Oahu island. Traditionally, the Mauna Kea area has the driest weather of all resort areas in the islands. Use of both postcard-perfect white sand beaches is available for guests of Shooting Stars.

Mauna Kea features an award-winning tennis park with 13 plexipave courts with an ocean view and a state-of-art video training facility.

For relaxation, renewal and pampering, there are two full-service spa/salons nearby, including the Mandara Spa at the renovated Mauna Kea Beach Resort. Also, both adjacent resorts offer all-new fitness facilities with a full array of state-of-art equipment including aerobics, pilates, spinning, and yoga.

Within Shooting Stars one of our favorite features is the enormous cork paneled and fully sound-proof theater room is a perfect venue for movies and media presentations. The Shooting Stars Estate has a heated infinity-edge pool (approximately 50 feet in length) with theater-style seating facing the ocean. There is also a large hot tub on the ocean side of the property that offers a full ocean view while soaking. A spacious courtyard-atrium at the center of Shooting Stars serves as a shaded lounging area that offers privacy for sunbathing. Just outside is a large built-in top-quality gas BBQ grill with a prep area. This villa is a chef's dream for catering and preparing meals for large families or small groups.

There are 7 bedroom suites in total for up to 14 guests, each with a full en-suite private bath. Several of the bedroom suites have a sitting area and/or a sofa bed, as well as outdoor private showers. Two of the master suites have in-ground hot tub spas set outdoors in their own private enclosed courtyards. Four of the seven bedrooms are on the pool and ocean side of the villa and have ocean views. Another ocean view bedroom suite is located on the upper level of the house and has two queen beds, a separate parlor with full entertainment system, computer, sofa bed, wet bar/fridge and a huge mountain side outdoor patio with teak lounge furniture. All of the bedroom suites have luxury furnishings and appointments - decorator furniture, deep plush mattresses with premium quality linens, down duvets and pillows, and 40" flat panel wall mounted LCD televisions each with a DVD.

The Shooting Stars Estate has been designed, decorated and furnished with an understated elegance. The contemporary tropical decor features an extensive use of natural fossil stone, marble, granite, cabinets and all the furniture is custom-made of native Hawaiian koa wood. The interior color scheme utilizes natural earth tones of beige, light brown and light green to blend with the surrounding environment.

The villa has central, multi-zoned air conditioning with each bedroom, office, media room and home gym having individual A/C controls. The Great Room is a majestic central living space with a digital piano and an elaborate first-class central stereo sound system. An entertainment area provides plush chenille and leather sofa seating for 8 or 9 persons surrounding an over-sized coffee table - a masterpiece of woodworking. Decorative items include rare, hand-carved tropical wooden bowls, custom ceramics and a wall mounted pre-historic fish fossil nearly 15 feet in length.

The Great Room is defined by a stunning solid koa wood indoor dining table that seats 14-16 persons. There is shaded alfresco dining space for as many as 20 guests just outside.

Back inside, there are multiple recreation rooms where all of the guests can spread out for personal quiet relaxation or they may be used to come together for group activities. A billiards room with a custom-made pineapple motif koa wood billiard table overlooks the pool and ocean, and it includes a large wall-mounted flat panel Pioneer TV, a DVD player, a full bar with assorted spirits, wet bar, four leather bar stools, and a refrigerator/ice-maker with filtered water.

In the kitchen, there is abundant wrap-around counter seating for casual dining or to watch the chef at work. There are also two double-size Sub-Zero refrigerators, a 6 burner Thermador professional gas range, dual gas ovens, dual convection electric ovens, warmer drawer, dual sinks and dishwashers, Calphalon pots and pans, Henckel knives, and a full array of commercial quality Kitchen Aid Pro-Line small appliances (including an espresso machine, programmable coffee maker, toasters, food processor, blender, mixer, juicer) - everything that a gourmand or professional chef would require. The kitchen is provisioned with sufficient high-quality china, glasses, stemware, silverware and table linens for entertaining up to 30 guests, and the walk-in pantry is pre-stocked with basic supplies such as oils, vinegars, condiments, juices & sodas, paper products. Off the kitchen is a laundry center that can be accessed from the garage for easy staff access to the house. There, beach towels, step ladder, iron/board, washer/dryer, laundry cleaning products, and medical & sun care products are stocked. The garage has space for 2-4 cars, along with bicycles and basic golf club sets for guest use.

The Shooting Stars Estate has a fully sound-proofed and air-conditioned home theater room which features state-of-the-art Theta and Creston equipment, cork flooring, padded walls, wood panel ceiling, hand woven carpet, and a large projection-screen with ten plush reclining seats - complete with cup holders.

Past the kitchen is a stone floor courtyard open to the sky where guests will find plenty of room for private sunning with no views from the outside. A powder half bath is convenient to the kitchen and billiard room off the courtyard. Also just off the courtyard is another dedicated entertainment/media room with leather sofas, 46 inch flat panel television with a VCR/DVD/CD system, books and games, some CDs & DVDs, a computer work station/office with 4-in-1 fax/printer, Sony computer with flat panel monitor with guest log in, Karaoke machine (pre-loaded with songs), phone.

The home gym/exercise room includes a LifeFitness T9i treadmill, a LifeFitness x9 elliptical machine, Hampton free weights, a large flat panel Pioneer TV with DVD, a full bath with marble shower and also an garden grotto outdoor shower.

For those who have to work, Shooting Stars offers a private office with a half-bath and a full array of high-tech office equipment including a Sony flat panel computer with guest log-in and two printers. There are three computer work stations located throughout the house and each station features top-quality equipment. Further, there are multiple iPod docking stations in the house, as well as high-speed wireless internet service throughout. Each television has a digital cable or satellite receiver box. The house computers are pre-loaded with assorted programs and an easy to use guest log-in.

Guests at the Shooting Stars Estate have golf, tennis, spa and dining privileges at the seasonally applicable resort-guest rates at both the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel and at the Mauna Kea Resort. Guests can walk 2-3 blocks to sandy Hapuna Beach, or as an alternative the Mauna Kea Beach is also nearby. Access to the Mauna Kea beach is via your own auto, or drive or walk over to the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel to board the shuttle bus over to the Mauna Kea Resort. It is also possible to take a leisurely hike along a shoreline path to the Mauna Kea Beach. We estimate it is no more than about 6 blocks away. We consider Mauna Kea Beach to be THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BEACH IN HAWAI'I. It is a horseshoe shaped shallow cove with gorgeous white sand and clear turquoise waters. The bay is home to a family of manta rays that offer wonderful sea-life viewing.

Daily hotel-style housekeeping service is included with bath linen change (personal laundry service is additional upon request). Bed linens are changed every 4th day.

Guests are granted resort rates for golf and tennis facilities, and may rent a golf cart with advance notice at extra charge. Some of the finest golf in the islands is provided at the Mauna Kea and Hapuna Prince courses. The Mauna Kea course was just re-built and it's club house offers scenic casual dining. (See details regarding the special golf package above)

A Helicopter landing facility is nearby, allowing guests to land by private jet at Kona airport then helicopter up the coast to arrive at "Your Own Private Paradise" within minutes of landing at the airport. The Kona helipad is located at the same tarmac as the private jet terminal.

Within Mauna Kea and Hapuna Prince Resorts (both adjacent to Shooting Stars) are a total of 13 restaurants and bar lounges, including two beachfront restaurants. Guests are entitled to full signing privileges, just like when staying at a hotel. There are also several boutiques for convenient shopping within the resort. At the nearby resorts of Waikoloa and Mauna Lani there are many other fine dining restaurants (Roy's, Tommy Bahama and other famous Hawai'ian eateries) and several shopping areas with an excellent collection of art galleries, jewelry stores, and clothing/surfing goods. Upslope from Mauna Kea Resort is the unique and charming "paniolo" themed town of Waimea. Steeped in Hawaiian cowboy history, Waimea offers an array of more reasonably priced shopping and dining. Not far from Mauna Kea Resort is a small fishing harbor where a cluster of small restaurants are just 10 minutes drive from Shooting Stars. Venture approximately 1 hour along a tremendously scenic highway to the remote and old-fashioned little town of Hawi where brilliant blue ocean-scapes lush green pasturelands abound. Then in the other direction approximately 30 minutes down the coast to the south, visitors may enjoy stopping at Costco or a visit to the laid-back seaside town of Kailua-Kona, popular with "locals" for dining, shopping, and even more entertainment.

Personal Concierge Service is provided complimentary through Private Paradise Villas. The "Big Island" offers horseback riding, helicopter flights, sailing boat charters, scuba/snorkel/kayaking, deep sea fishing, star gazing excursions, hiking, irrigation flume tubing, and other activities. Your Personal Concierge will arrange for recommendations and reservations for golf tee-times, tennis, restaurants, in-villa spa and massage treatments, private yacht or fishing charters, private helicopter tours, horseback riding, and other exceptional adventures and outings.

Despite the "Big Island" being large enough to swallow all of the other islands of Hawaii State, all types of recreation are a short distance from the Kohala Coast. The best sport fishing in the world departs from Kawaihae and Honokohau Harbors. Pleasure boats launch from the resorts and nearby marinas for whale watching, snorkeling, scuba diving, and sunset sails. Visitors may also opt to tour coffee plantations, see orchid and macadamia nut farms, trek to the red hot lava flows of Kilauea Caldera at twilight (accessible from Hilo side of the island), or visit ancient petroglyphs and fishing shrines built by the former kings of Hawaii.

We named this spectacular estate as "Shooting Stars" because the "Big Island is famous for spectacular night skies full of sparkling stars - including shooting stars - easily visible in the jet black night sky of this tranquil island.

Other Non-Standard Amenities Provided in this Villa The property has a full complement of guest amenities including direct local telephone, satellite DirectTV with receivers in almost all rooms, CD/DVD players, VCR, central stereo system, high-speed wireless internet, small appliances, beach/pool towels, washer/dryer, iron/ironing board and a large built-in propane rotisserie/BBQ. Home gym/exercise room, home theater, family/media room, billiard parlor, home office, multiple computer work stations, multiple Ipod docking stations, multi-zone security system. Guests at the Shooting Stars Estate have golf, tennis, spa and dining privileges at the seasonally applicable resort-guest rates at both the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel and at the Mauna Kea Resort. It is also possible to take a leisurely hike along a shoreline path to the Mauna Kea Resort - approximately 1 mile.

The estate typically is pre-stocked with quality amenities such as shampoos, conditioners, lotions, sunscreens, etc. There is garage parking with space for 2-4 cars depending on size. Bicycles and basic golf club sets are available.

Private chef services are available for hire by separate contract and payment. Average rates range from $85-125 per hour + 4.17% tax + 15-20% gratuity. Chef s helpers/servers are approximately $35 per hour + tax + gratuity. Rates may be higher on holidays.

Standard Amenities
Most villas typically will be stocked with a barbeque grill, answering machine, alarm clocks, phone, television, video cassette recorder and/or DVD, CD stereo, washer & dryer, iron & board, coffee maker & grinder, microwave, blender, toaster oven, dishwasher, oven, range, ceiling fans, hair dryer, spices & herbs, paper & pen, kitchen supplies such as cookware, glassware, silverware, outdoor furnishings, starter supply of soap, paper, cleaning products and utensils, and dining, bed and bath linens. Usually some beach chairs and towels are provided. Guests often misplace beach towels and chairs therefore an exact inventory is not guaranteed unless reserving a luxury class home. Some homes also provide iPod docks, high speed internet access, wireless networks, fax machine, espresso/cappuccino machine, exercise equipment and other upscale toys. Please inquire if a specific amenity will improve your comfort or convenience.
Amenities Not Included
Provide your own toiletries, slippers, and wrap, however Private Paradise Villas does stock in its managed homes bathrobes and custom toiletries. Recreational equipment, if found on the property is incidental, and is not a guaranteed feature of the house inventory. Boogie Boards, Snorkel Sets, Surf Boards, Kayaks, Bicycles, and other sports equipment can be rented in advance through third party providers. Please inquire with our Concierge for reservations.
Rates Include
Direct local phone, parking (except at condominiums or hotels), Concierge assistance, optional greeting upon arrival, occupancy up to the maximum number of persons allowed, weekly pool/spa service, weekly gardening, post-departure cleaning if not charged separately, extra person fees and housekeeping services as noted up to the stated maximum amount.
Rates Do Not Include
In Hawaii, homes are provided on an a-la-carte basis and most incidental personal services are not included in the rates quoted. Not included are long distance phone (unless a property offers a fixed price monthly unlimited long distance calling plan, security/damage/incidentals/activity deposit, extra guest-requested pool, spa service or yard cleaning, personal laundry, extra housekeeping other than noted, Hawaii State General Excise Tax 4.166%, Hawaii State Transient Accommodations Tax 9.25%, food or beverages, CSA Vacation Rental Insurance, lei greeting, airport greeting, transfers, transportation, auto rental, rental bedding, child care supplies, child proofing services, sightseeing, tours, activities, baggage handling at airport or at villa, sports and water recreation supplies, replenishment of paper & soap products other than initial supply, and any other items or services not specifically listed as included.
Standard Policies
Respect the stated maximum occupancy allowed please! This is very important, as all private homes in our collection are the valuable and beloved second homes of individual private owners. The availability and future right to enjoy our multi-million dollar vacation homes is conditioned upon each guest respecting the owner's pre-disclosed specific terms and conditions. Remove your shoes upon entering your home, as Hawaii's volcanic soil can stain carpets, tile, and fabrics. Step outside to smoke please. No pets on property. Rinse off sand and sun lotions before walking on interior floors sitting on furniture. Sun products will stain upholstery and linens and may damage furnishings. Weddings, receptions, and gatherings are strictly prohibited on any of our properties, due to residential zoning codes which discourage non-residential use, boisterous use causing noise complaints, excessive occupancy causing parking problems in the neighborhood, or any use involving additional non registered guests on the property. Please inquire in advance if you will have other friends or family staying elsewhere on island if you plan to gather at your vacation home as one group. Neighborhood quiet hours are 8pm - 8am.
Cancellation Policy
REFUND & CANCELLATIONS: GUEST UNDERSTANDS AND ACKNOWLEDGES THAT THE INITIAL PAYMENT BY GUEST IS NON-REFUNDABLE, UNLESS THE PROPERTY IS DAMAGED BY A CAUSE OTHER THAN GUEST NEGLIGENCE, OR IF THE PROPERTY IS OTHERWISE RENDERED UNFIT FOR HABITATION AND NO ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTE PROPERTY CAN BE ARRANGED. IF GUEST CANCELS THIS RESERVATION, A REFUND OF GUEST'S INITIAL PAYMENT MAY BE MADE, LESS A PRE-DISCLOSED CANCELLATION CHARGE, BASED ON THE GROSS RENTAL AMOUNT AND TAXES ORIGINALLY DUE FOR THE RESERVATION, IF THE ACCOMMODATION IS RE-RESERVED BY ANOTHER PARTY FOR THE SAME DATES AND AT THE SAME RATE.
